Deadmans Island
Deadmans Island

Off of the coast of Kent and near the also notorious Isle of Sheppey lies a place called Deadmans Island and it truly is a dank scary place.

Whats the story with Deadmans Island in Kent?

Deadman’s Island is a small “island” in the estuary of the River Medway in Kent, United Kingdom, which is pretty much where I am from!

More a raised area of marshland than an actual island, it is small (1200 by 200 meters) and is operated from the mainland by a narrow channel known as Shepherd’s Creek.

The nearest town is Queensborough on the Isle of Sheppey, which funnily enough has  the second best microbrewery in the UK, apparently.

So what makes this island so dank? Well in 2016 the remains of over 200 people were found. They are believed to have been children up to adults that were on Prison Hulks. Want to know aha a prison hulk is? Basically a prison on a ship. Two hundred years ago people were sent here for petty crimes and they were breading grounds for death and disease.

The graves of the dead were originally built 6 feet under in wooden coffins, but erosion means that at low tides you can see bones, bodies and the like.

Can you buy Deadmans Island Kent?

No you cannot as it is owned by Natural England, leased to two people and used for scientific research related to the birds that breed on the island. More to the point though why the body hell would you want to buy it?

Technically you could at least put in an offer for the islands, depending on how macabre you are.

Technically too you are not supposed to even visit the islands, but as has been seen in photos and videos, the security is not all that tight.
